Recognizing the difficulties and pitfalls that lie ahead for the newly recovering
alcoholic and addict, Genesis House's structure and support are geared
towards the individual that is serious about recovery and has a strong
desire for a substance free way of life.
Individuals in transition from treatment facilities or persons that
have the need for additional support benefit from the following structure
components as they build a solid foundation in sobriety.
12-Step Meetings
12-step meetings must be attended on a nightly basis. In addition, noon
meetings are required for those currently unemployed or not in school.
12-Step Sponsorship
A 12-step sponsor is required within 14 days.
Peer Meetings
A weekly peer meeting is attended by all house residents to evaluate
individual progress and address issues pertaining to applying the 12-steps
to daily life.
Resident Breakfast Meeting
Following breakfast a discussion and morning meditation meeting are
conducted. This reflective discussion centers around a daily topic selected
from AA approved literature such as, "A Day At A Time." Individual daily
goals and schedules are also discussed.
Resident Dinner Meeting
During this nightly meeting individual house member personal business
for the evening and for the next day are finalized. Such items as coordinating
rides to meetings, after care and other personal appointments are addressed.
24 Hour Management
Managers are available to discuss resident's personal issues on an individual
basis and to help them outline a plan of action along the lines of the
12-steps.
Weekly Family Support Sessions
Emotional healing and understanding is important for the family members
as well as the alcoholic/addict. Family participation is encouraged
to address unresolved issues and improve the recovery process. The family
support sessions serve as an introduction to Al-Anon and other community
resources. The meetings are led by a volunteer with professional training
in codependency and alcohol/drug addiction recovery.
Newcomer Meeting
Weekly meetings are attended by new residents to provide extra support
and to address the problems of early sobriety.
Transition Plan
When a resident has become well grounded in sobriety and the 12-steps,
has built an outside support group, and has become functional and self-supporting,
he fills out a transition plan. The plan is evaluated by the Genesis
staff with emphasis on identifying potential relapse issues.
Becoming a Graduate
Graduation is a very important part of the recovery process for the
individual at Genesis House. Graduation represents a level of commitment
and dedication to the processes, which are necessary to sustain long
term sobriety.
Continued Involvement
Genesis House alumni are welcome to attend all house functions, and
are encouraged to return and participate with new residents.
